Better Life Behavioral  Services

Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy (ABA)

Better Life Behavioral Services of Central Florida provides Behavior Analysis services in a clinic setting, as well as in-home.  If you are in need of ABA services, please call our office to speak to a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.  Although the process/requirements to begin services may differ depending on the method of payment if ABA services are appropriate a thorough functional assessment will be conducted that may include both in-home and clinic-based visits.  Once an assessment is complete, goals and a plan for Focused or Comprehensive ABA Treatment will be developed.  This plan will be reviewed by parents/guardians, caretakers, and any other members of the treatment team.  The plan will include the steps that are necessary to implement.

Better Life Behavioral Services of Central Florida was established in 2011. We are skilled professionals delivering medically necessary Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to kids of all ages. Our ABA services are clinic-based, school-based, and community-based. ABA is a scientifically-based therapy that utilizes the principles of behavior to promote the development of all types of skills and reduce behavioral excesses that hinder learning, development, and relationships with family and peers. It is recognized by the Surgeon General and the CDC as an effective therapy for Autism. The well-kept secret is that the principles of learning can be applied to ALL behavior.

Better Life Behavioral Services provides services that are designed to reduce problem behaviors ranging from aggression to task avoidance. What is crucial is the development of appropriate replacement behaviors as they are vital to our clients’ progress. Applied Behavior Analysis therapy is different from traditional behavioral health therapy. Appointments with traditional therapies (Mental Health Counselors, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, etc.) where you may be seen as frequently as every day, every month, every few months, or every year differ from ABA therapy. Applied Behavior Analysis services range from a couple of hours per week to up to 40 hours per week depending on the clients’ needs. Communication and social skills are always a focal point of therapy. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT is what you will see and hear when you walk through our clinic. Your child will know how wonderful they are when they are learning. We employ methods that provide many learning opportunities for skill acquisition. Pushing for skill acquisition will oftentimes lead to problem behavior, but no worries. We will find out why your child engages in problem behavior and design an intervention to reduce those problems. Due to the intensive therapy, you will likely notice changes shortly after starting therapy. Our goal is that your child will not even know they are in therapy.

Focused ABA

Focused ABA involves direct service delivery to the client. It is not restricted by age, cognitive level, or co-occurring conditions. Focused ABA refers to treatment provided directly to the client for a limited number of behavioral targets.  These behavioral targets can include problem behaviors that require treatment/restoration of abilities or the lack of appropriate skills or remediation that require treatment. Comprehensive ABA

Comprehensive ABA refers to treatment where there are multiple targets across all developmental domains that are affected by the individual’s disability.  These behavioral targets can include problem behaviors that require treatment/restoration of abilities or the lack of appropriate skills or remediation that require treatment. (Guidelines: Health Plan Coverage of Applied Behavior Analysis Treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorders, 2012 ver.1.1. www.bacb.com)

Parent Training & Social Skills Training

Better Life Behavioral Services of Central Florida will also provide parent training and social skills training in a group setting.  Parent training will help parents incorporate the reinforcement-based procedures into the home-setting.  This training will teach parents how to identify a behavior they would like to change, measure that behavior, and how to uses reinforcement-based procedures to change that behavior.  The social skills group training will provide children with the opportunity to practice and develop their social skills.  These group sessions will also give ample opportunity for the newly learned skills to be reinforced by peers and accompanying adults.
