Dr. Cheryl Guerrero
Dr. Guerrero is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with a Doctoral designation (BCBA-D). She has been applying her Behavior Analytic clinical skills in both educational and residential settings for the past 19 years.
Dr. Guerrero is a native Floridian who completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at The Florida State University in 1996. In 2002, she completed her Doctoral Degree in the Experimental Analysis of Behavior with a minor in Rehabilitation and Special Education at Auburn University. GO NOLES and WAR EAGLE! Her passions are her family, her animals (dogs, horses, goats, and chickens), and her work. Ask her to see pictures when you see her. Along with her clinical experiences, Dr. Guerrero has also conducted research in the field of Behavior Analysis and has been fortunate enough to have some of her work published in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Guerrero’s clinical career started in the state of Delaware and in its neighboring state, New Jersey. There, she gained knowledge and a great appreciation for amazing children and amazing adults that had special needs. Her children are around campus whenever they get a chance and they are mini behavior analysts themselves. Her husband, Andres, is a co-owner of Better Life Academy and Better Life Behavioral Services. Dr. Guerrero is fortunate to have him as her husband and business partner. He does all the things she cannot do (and doesn’t want to do). Her passion and dedication to her profession is a family affair as her middle sister is a fellow BCBA and her younger sister is a Speech and Language Pathologist.
Dr. Guerrero’s experience includes providing behavior analytic services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and severe behavior problems. The first 11 years of her career gave her a lifetime of knowledge and experience in a diversity of residential settings. Long and trying days were routine. However, those days were always filled with small successes that made a big difference in the lives of the kids and adults she worked with. Her early experiences involved providing behavior analytic services to individuals dually diagnosed, specifically those with a developmental disability and a co-existing mental health diagnosis.
In 2011, after many years of working for another company, she embarked on a mission to provide ABA services and to provide a Better Life for those she worked with. This was a life-changing event for her. After working with so many families facing significant challenges in their pursuit of the best for their children, she knew there was more that could be done to help them. With the help of her family and friends, she set out to do more for the families and kids she met in Florida.
Dr. Guerrero knew the collaboration of skilled teachers and clinical professionals would allow the successful application of the principles of the science of behavior and learning to an educational setting. This is fundamental to what she set out to provide at Better Life Academy. Training other professionals on the Behavior Analytic approach is very important to her. Further development of skilled RBT’s, teachers and aspiring Behavior Analysts is a very reinforcing part of her responsibilities.
Overall, Dr. Guerrero is a professional dedicated to changing lives through changing behavior. She never forgets the importance of ensuring dignity and respect in a therapeutic and educational environment. She holds the relationships she has built with amazing families and those with the professionals at Better Life Academy and Better Life Behavioral Services very close to her heart.
